As many painters use a colored support to give a different glow to the finished painting, I decided to use a heavy colored fabric as the suport for my free-motion machine embroidery. Below is Sunset Beyond the Woods and the support as a background is a bright red heavy cotton fabric. For Blue Landscape I used a medium blue denim as the support. Many layers of sewing thread are added to both landscapes, completely covering the support. Much like a lightly colored glaze added to a painting, the background or support color still gives an atmospheric glaze to this artwork. Therefore Sunset seems very warm and Blue gives a cloudy darker atmosphere.
