When it freezes what do I do?

When we had the deep freeze followed by more snow 

what did I spend my time INSIDE doing?

 Besides enjoying watching my striped amaryllis bloom 

and bloom again.........

 I should have been spending all my time on creating work for 

upcoming exhibits, but I didn't.

 I thought of upcoming birthdays and started creating note cards....

 That is relaxing, sort of and sometimes.

 Time is spent exploring materials,

   searching for ideas and trying designs and formats .

My thought is that one of these just might be a sample 

for a large wall hanging, someday.

I do find collages and embroidery I have preciously

 created and try incorporating all into something new.

 It always ends up with more stitching necessary and replanning 

and more thought .....

I guess that is where the creativity come in.

I do enjoy the final construction.

The Anatomy of a DC Snow Storm

While in my studio I look out this window with views 

of the two main streets below us.

We had a lot of warning about the coming snowstorm that would last 

from Friday through Saturday, January 22 and 23, 2016.

Since my street is on a cul de sac, we rarely have a snowplow visit us, 

so I watch the main streets, to see if they get plowed.

The buses and metro have been closed for Saturday and Sunday.

This was taken at noon on Friday.

 3 PM Friday

5 PM on Friday 

 Friday 10 PM

8 AM Saturday, no snow plows anywhere 

 Saturday 11 AM

1 PM Saturday 

 White out Saturday 3 PM

 Saturday 6 PM

 Saturday 11 PM

8 AM Sunday, stopped snowing .

Sunday noon, sun 

Sunday about 1 PM several neighbors start shoveling a trench 

12 to 18 inches wide from the top of our hill to the cul de sac.

They worked up to the front door of each house.

These very nice neighbors from the top of our hill were exhausted. 

I think there is over 2 feet of snow they were moving.

So, we invited everyone who could walk through these trenches 

to join us for a cocktail party at 4 PM.

It was a good evening.

Monday, a front loader is stuck at the top of our hill 

with a dump truck behind it and now a tow truck has been added.

So we are still waiting for something to happen. 

All schools and the government are still closed.

However today the buses start at noon and metro started again. 

It is free to ride both of them. 

However where would anyone go that is open?

Visions Art Museum, C2C, New Image Artists, Barbara Lee Smith, and Jazz exhibits, San Diego.

Continuing a review of the current shows at Visions Art Museum.

Barbara Lee Smith is having a show in one of the rooms 

of the museum. Above on the left is Marshland Reflections 

and on the right, Mountain and Grasses.

and on the right, South Jetty Fog at 30 inches square.

Barbara's work does not photograph well. These two 

pieces appear darker in color both here and in the catalog.

 

Mt personal favorite of this show is a two part piece 

titled Mountain and Grasses, 25 by 50 inches.

Day Break is 72 by 48 inches.

Barbara drew large crowds exclaiming about 

the beauty of her work and wondering about the 

process that goes into her atmospheric landscapes.

Another show going on at the same time is called Jazz. 

Almost all of these small quilts were sold at the opening reception.

From San Diego we drove up the coast to L.A.
