Again thinking of blankets, for that Sketch Book Project, the most obvious and beautiful ones I have neglected. I wasn't sure I could do them justice with colored pencils as the color is so rich and patterns often so complicated for a weaver, yet simple for the viewer. Navaho Blankets have symbolic and primarily geometric designs. The early ones were woven with natural dyed yarns but in the 19th century the weavers started using yarns from Europe as they were brighter in color. The few I have drawn have been loosely rendered from actual Navaho Blanket designs.
