Yesterday as I was writing in this blog another small artwork sold on the last day of the New Image show, Yard Art - Art at the Yard.
This is Door Front in Burano which is 11 by 14 inches, matted and framed. I enjoyed working on this art work as it is created with several techniques. I've used fabric, both manipulated and appliqued, paint, as well as free-motion embroidery.
Burano is another of the small islands like Murano near Venice, known for lace work instead of glass. There were many small buildings painted bright and pastel colors with women in some doorways working on pillow lace. They would invite you in to view and sell their lace. Many of the open doorways had striped fabrics hanging much like we would have a screen door.
